THE CHARACTERISTIC OF WATER CLOSET ELDERLY TO IMPROVE SPATIAL IMAGE

Comfort and safety is one of the important factors in the spatial needs of the elderly facilities, one of which is a water closet facilities are generally often used by the elderly. Water closet facilities to the needs of the elderly are often used usually seek the comfort of the sitting position as supporting the elderly body structure. In Indonesia, which will be condensed culture defecate squatting position now, when in his old age find it difficult to squat position, and are required to use the sitting position to avoid the risk of falling. Comfort and safety are very important to this particular concern by researchers, and it is not only considered the aspect of comfort during use only (external factors) but also need to be considered when processed convenience defecation takes place (internal factors). Until finally the comfort and security of having health elements necessary for the elderly. Therefore, in this study the characteristics of the design seeks to create an innovative water closet and aesthetic to the health and enhance the spatial image especially public facilities for the elderly. By using the methods of qualitative research, grounded theory approach and phenomenological observations, the authors tried to make a study of the characteristics of the elderly to improve the water closet spatial image.
