BUDAYA HUKUM PERKAWINAN BAJAPUIK BAGI MASYARAKAT PARIAMAN

Pariaman is one of the few areas in the Minangkabau realm that maintains the custom of buying men in marriage. The tradition of buying with this amount of money is called the Bajapuik Tradition, the amount of which is determined based on the agreement of both parties. This tradition is not included dowry but is a cost incurred by women to bring men to live in the family of the woman. This tradition belongs to the element of Adat Nan Adat which can indeed be changed and changed by way of deliberation. This tradition has moral sanctions if it is not applied in marriage in Pariaman. The method used in this thesis is the method of approach or direct observation of the tradition in the Pariaman community. With the times, this tradition is not as strict as before which indeed requires the female party to give some money to the family of the man in accordance with the title or social status of the man. Not all Minangkabau traditional marriages use the Bajapuik tradition, because this tradition is not much different from other customs. In Minangkabau what distinguishes the Bajapuik tradition is the provision of pickup money by the women to the men. With the development of the times, it is hoped that this tradition will no longer burden women to be able to practice the adat.
