Permasalahan yang akan diselesaikan pada penelitian ini secara umum adalalah Apakah terdapat kontribusi model pembelajaran PAKEM terhadap hasil belajar matematika siswa kelas XI IPS ? Dari sekian banyak masalah yang teridentifikasi, maka ruang lingkup penelitian dibatasi pada hubungan model PAKEM terhadap hasil belajar, permasalahan meliputi: model pembelajaran PAKEM sebagai variabel bebas, sedangkan hasil belajar matematika sebagai variabel terikat. Faktor model pembelajaran PAKEM dipilih sebagai tema sentral penelitian, didasari pada suatu anggapan bahwa keberhasilan belajar siswa sebagian ditentukan oleh faktor diatas.
