Description:

Alt. Description

Background: Dysmenorrhea is pain that occurs especially in the lower abdomen which can spread to the lower back, waist, pelvis, upper thighs, and calves. One that affects dysmenorrhea is intake. The intake of micronutrients plays a very important role in overcoming dysmenorrhea. In addition, physical activity also affects the incidence of dysmenorrhea in athletes. Objective: To analyze the differences in calcium, magnesium, zinc intake, and physical activity based on the incidence of dysmenorrhea in adolescent female athletes in adolescent high schools (athletes only). Method: This study is a quantitative study using an analytic observational approach with a cross‒sectional design. Sampling was done by using purposive sampling technique, it was found that a total of 64 respondents were divided into 32 dysmenorrhea groups and 32 nondysmenorrhea groups. The data collected included respondent characteristics, intake of calcium, magnesium, and zinc using the Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire, physical activity using the Physical Activity Level form, data on stomach cramps during menstruation using the Numerical Rating Scale. Bivariate analysis used the Independent T-Test and Mann Whitney statistical tests. Results: The results showed there was a significant difference in the variable calcium intake (p≤0.05). There was a significant difference in the variable magnesium intake (p≤0.05). There was no significant difference in the variable zinc intake (p≥0.05). There was a significant difference in the physical activity variable (p≤0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant difference between calcium intake, magnesium intake and physical activity in athletes who have dysmenorrhea and athletes who do not have dysmenorrhea.
