Saat ini lulusan perguruan tinggi negeri maupun perguruan tinggi swasta lebih besar porsinya sebagai pencari kerja daripada pencipta lapangan pekerjaan. Jika dicermati dari sisi jumlah wirausahawan di Indonesia masih sangat kecil jika dibandingkan dengan negara-negara lain. Indonesia per Januari 2012, jumlah wirausahawan berjumlah 3,74 juta atau berjumlah 1,56% dari jumlah penduduk Indonesia yang telah mencapai 240 juta jiwa. Jumlah ini tertinggal jauh dari negara lainnya seperti Cina, Jepang, Malaysia dan Singapura.
